John Hume

We pay tribute to the memory of our good friend John Hume, to whom we owe our heartfelt thanks for his warm friendship, great kindness, interest, encouragement, wisdom and most generous support for our charity’s work in Rajasthan, NW India. John’s great enthusiasm for education, his commitment to his Quaker principles and his strong sense of compassion made him a powerful champion for our charity’s cause. One of John’s wonderful ideas was to provide some extra-curricular activities for the pupils and their teachers to enjoy – treats such as school trips, awards, cultural celebrations and parties – to enhance their school activities and to brighten and broaden their experience of life and community. Thanks to John’s kindness and generosity – and, we’re sure, to his own sense of fun – our children and their teachers have been able to experience and enjoy visits by coach to temples, lakes, the nearest city of Ajmer, play parks and the cinema, as well as school parties and picnics, religious festival celebrations and rides on the fun fair at Pushkar’s world-famous Camel Fair.
